Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the extension of the agreement for grain transit from Ukrainian ports over the Black Sea for another two months.

In a post on his Twitter account on Wednesday, Erdogan stated that his country will continue to make efforts to continue by fulfilling all the conditions of the agreement in the next stage.

With the support of our Russian friends and the contributions of our Ukrainian friends, it was decided to extend the Grain Corridor Agreement in the Black Sea for two more months.”

The Turkish president conveyed his thanks to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for his sincere support of Ankara’s efforts in this process.

He also thanked the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky for constructive cooperation.

I would also like to thank the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres, for his efforts in this process.”

He expressed his hope that the decision “which is vital for the functioning of global food supply chains and especially for facilitating the delivery of grains to countries in need” will be beneficial to all parties.

We hope to see the days when peace will be achieved after a permanent ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine,” he said.

In a related context, Erdoğan stated that Russia will not prevent Turkish ships from leaving the ports of Mykolaiv and Olivia, and thanked Moscow for this stance.

On July 22, 2022, Istanbul witnessed the signing of the “Initiative Document on the Safe Transport of Grain and Foodstuffs from Ports of Ukraine” between Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations.

The agreement included securing grain exports stranded at Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea (Eastern Europe) to address the global food shortage threatening a humanitarian catastrophe.

The grain export agreement was scheduled to expire on May 18 (tomorrow, Thursday), before the extension agreement was reached today.
