The Syrian Network for Human Rights confirmed that 10,024 Syrians died as a result of the earthquake that hit northwest Syria and southern Turkey at dawn Monday (February 6th).

The network said that due to the earthquake and the delay of UN and international aid, 10,024 Syrians died, with 4,191 distributed in areas outside the control of the Syrian regime in northwest Syria relative to control areas, with 394 killed in areas under Syrian control. The Syrian regime and 5,439 Syrian refugees died on Turkish soil.

In a report, the Network stated that the large number of Syrians who lost their lives due to the earthquake urgently needed to be registered and the possibility that the delay in humanitarian aid may have contributed to the deaths of more Syrians prompted the Network team to document the situation. responding to this arduous and massive job with additional challenges, despite the team’s great experience over the years, its geographic spread, and its extended relationships in various regions.

Fadl Abdel-Ghani, Director of the Syrian Network for Human Rights, said: “We have spent all this tremendous effort to help aid organizations, especially the international community, benefit directly from the compensation lists to the families of the victims, but this Aid will not succeed if it is given to organizations designed to plunder international aid. We must also not forget that Syria The regime and its allies are responsible for not only cutting off water, electricity and services, but also the migration of millions of Syrians to northwest Syria. but it also pursued them with continuous bombing operations for years, so it is unreasonable for him to deliver aid to them with transparency and integrity.” According to the report, there are approximately 3.2 million people displaced in northwest Syria from various Syrian regions fleeing abuses by the Syrian regime and its Iranian and Russian allies. Women and children account for about 75% of the displaced, from just 2 percent since 2011. Few are often overlooked, being cut off from all essential services like water and electricity, at a time when they insist that UN aid must go through because it controls civilians and the Syrian state, not just displaces them. The Syrian regime launched attacks on the earthquake zones with an approach that proved the brutality and violence of this regime.

The report also confirmed that the vast majority of aid did not reach those affected and that this rate could reach nearly 90% despite numerous investigations and reports published since 2015, including Human Rights Watch reports and the Guardian newspaper investigations. The regime deliberately designed the looting of aid, mainly based strictly on its affiliates, especially the Syrian Development Foundation, Civil Defense and the Red Crescent, and said that this is one of the most important evidences of looting. The most important reason for the aid is that these organizations do not publish financial transparency reports, no one knows how much and how they received. In addition, it does not disclose an institutional and administrative structure and employs people close to the Syrian regime and leaders of security organizations.
