The UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, called on the Syrian “Constitutional Committee” to return to its duty in Geneva meaningfully and swiftly.

Pedersen emphasized that all parties in the country should come together in order to provide a suitable environment in the post-earthquake recovery process.

In his briefing at the UN Security Council, Pedersen stated that the current situation is unbearable and said, “There is a need more than ever for a political process that Syrians will accept under their leadership and with the support of the international community. The United Nations plays a facilitating role.”

“Coordinated cooperation between all actors in the political process will make a big difference.”

He noted that he continued to prioritize work on abductees, detainees, detainees and missing persons, adding that the double earthquake made the situation worse.

He stressed the importance of actors outside Syria, focusing on how to secure more resources and remove barriers to access to essential resources, such as sanctions. It also welcomed the commitments made at the international donors’ conference held in Brussels, and speedy implementation of those commitments.
