The Syrian Emergency Task Force (SETF) has successfully introduced five specialist doctors to the besieged Rukban camp in southern Syria, which suffers from a severe lack of medical services. The organization, led by Syrian-American activist Mouaz Moustafa, managed to deliver these specialists, including a surgeon, a neurologist, two dentists, a psychiatrist, and a pediatrician/anesthesiologist.
Mouaz Moustafa stated on the X platform, “In a besieged and starved Syrian camp deprived of healthcare by Russia, Iran, and Assad, the US military coordinated with an American NGO, the Syrian Emergency Task Force, to transport five doctors to Rukban. Grateful to the Free Syrian Army for protecting the civilians and doctors.”
This marks the first time such a large number of doctors have entered the camp, with SETF’s assistance. The doctors will remain until the 16th of the current month (June/July), with one staying longer for ongoing support. On Tuesday, SETF also distributed food aid to Rukban camp residents, providing each family with “3 tins of halva, 11 cans of peas, 11 cans of mortadella, 12 cans of chickpeas, and 5 cans of fava beans.” This is a continuation of the food aid distributed to camp residents a few days ago.
Global Justice had previously participated in aid distribution through its envoy to the camp, Muayyad Yousef. Today, it continues its efforts with Dr.
Temim Cübeyinoğlu, a dental surgeon and the head of Dünya Adaleti “Global Justice” in Turkey. Dr. Cübeyinoğlu arrives at the camp accompanied by Sullivan Gaudreault, the English editor for Global Justice Syria News. This increases the number of Global Justice representatives at Rukban camp in the current campaign to three participants from various specialties. Additionally, Dr. Bakr Ghabis, the head of Citizens for a Secure America (C4SSA), is also involved.
It is worth noting that the first doctor to break the siege of Rukban camp was Dr. Haytham Albizem, the head of Global Justice, who arrived at the camp last summer with Mouaz Moustafa. Dr. Albizem examined many displaced persons and provided assistance for building new schools for children. He also funded the monthly salaries of teachers in Rukban schools for the 2023/2024 academic year. Additionally, Global Justice funded the printing and storage of thousands of textbooks for various educational stages, which were transported to the camp and distributed free of charge.
