The US Department of Defense announced that it has launched “precision air strikes” targeting Iranian militias in eastern Syria recently.
The bombing came in response to a drone strike yesterday that killed an American and injured six others at a care facility inside a base near Hasakah Governorate on Thursday.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said the attacks targeted facilities used by groups affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.
“The attacks were carried out in response to the attack (Thursday), as well as a series of attacks by groups allied with the (Revolutionary Guards) against coalition forces in Syria. No group that bombs our forces has immunity,” Austin said in a statement.
In the statement, it was noted that the US intelligence services estimated that the drone targeting a base in Hasakah was of “Iranian origin”.
He explained that the attack resulted in the death of an American contractor and the wounding of five soldiers, and another American contractor, four of whom were transported to Iraq for treatment.
Unidentified drones targeted three trucks belonging to the Iranian militia carrying closed containers in Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria after entering Iraq through the Al-Qaim border crossing, with no reports of death or injury.
