The American organization Global Justice is actively involved in distributing food aid to displaced persons in the Rukban camp, with assistance from the U.S. military, which facilitated the transport of these supplies in cooperation with the SETF.
Recently, Global Justice envoy Mouayad Yousef arrived at the Al-Tanf base from the United States to assist thousands of displaced individuals suffering under a siege imposed by Assad’s forces, Russia, and Iran in a remote area deep within the Syrian desert.
Yousef told Global Justice Syria News that the conditions in the camp are dire and that the residents deserve all efforts to break the harsh siege imposed on them. “We distribute various types of aid daily to men, women, and children. We have visited schools and organized celebrations with the children to lift their spirits. This is just a small contribution by Global Justice alongside the Syrian Emergency Organization to bring some joy and comfort to these people’s hearts,” he added.
The aid includes essential food items such as flour, bulgur, lentils, and oil. Plans are underway to provide medical assistance soon. Each family receives 6 kg of flour, 700 grams of bulgur, 6 units of lentils at 700 grams each, 2 units of chickpeas at 700 grams each, 125 grams of yeast, 3 liters of sunflower oil, and 750 grams of salt. In recent days, energy biscuits, baby diapers, and cleaning supplies have been distributed.
The aid arrived via coalition aircraft at the Al-Tanf military base and is being distributed through local committees within the camp, reaching 1,800 families.
Bassem Abdullah Al-Sulaiman, head of the Rukban Civil Council, stated earlier to the media, “The humanitarian situation in the camp is catastrophic. Rukban camp has been declared a disaster area, and the situation is worsening daily.”
Mouayad Yousef concluded his remarks to Global Justice Syria News by saying, “We are striving to maximize the number of individuals receiving aid. The substantial cooperation from the U.S. military, which transports us and the aid, is a significant effort that the camp’s children will remember for saving them from the cruel siege. We appeal to the world to intervene to protect the camp and its residents from death due to starvation.”
It is noteworthy that Global Justice, along with the Syrian Emergency Organization, is the only organization providing aid to the camp. This follows a visit by the organization’s president, Dr. Haytham Albizem, to the camp last summer. During his visit, he provided medical assistance, held numerous meetings with the residents to understand their situation, and was the first doctor to reach the camp since its establishment years ago. Dr.Albizem conducted medical examinations and promised further support. Global Justice funded the printing and transportation of thousands of school books to support the educational process in the camp, built schools to accommodate students of all grades, and covered teachers’ salaries throughout the 2023/2024 academic year.
