Yesterday, Friday, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said in an exclusive interview on the Haberturk channel that the current situation in Idlib will remain the same, and the fate of Idlib will be like any other region, such as the Euphrates Shield.
In his speech, Davutoglu added, “We need to work together on the road map in Syria, in joint cooperation with Gulf and Arab countries, and we welcome that.”
Commenting on the conditions set by the Assad regime in the quadripartite meeting in Moscow: “Since the beginning of the meetings, the Syrian regime has been repeating its desire for the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syrian territory, but it is a regime that does not even have control over its territory.”
And Ihsanoglu added, “Even the United States, the PKK, and terrorist organizations in northeastern Syria control some areas of Syria. There is no doubt that we support the territorial integrity of Syria, and we will not accept the regime’s conditions, and the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar al-Assad, repeats them in his meeting, but our forces will not withdraw from Syria.”
Davutoglu made it clear that re-dialogue with the Assad regime will make it demand more conditions, and therefore the establishment of the regime with regard to the political process will be much less, as it is a regime that does not prefer a political solution, but rather a military solution, and the matter will not be that easy.
He noted by saying: “The Syrian opposition has strengthened its forces and training, and we do not want military conflicts. There are steps that the regime must take within the framework of the UN Security Council so that the political process yields positive results.”
Also, there are things that are going step by step, but some Arab countries want to take a step for full normalization, and some of them oppose normalization with the regime, but our engagement with the regime led to the acceleration of dialogue with it by other Arab countries.
