Hassan Hazouri, a doctor at the Faculty of Economics of Aleppo University, stated that the Syrian government’s inability to increase salaries is due to resource scarcity and the difficult economic situation, and pointed out that any increase will not close the gap between prices and prices. purchasing power.
According to the Sadik Al-Watan newspaper, Hazouri stated that it has become very necessary to raise salaries so that government institutions can continue their work, with all their names, “Because the salary paid by government institutions is only enough for a job for a few days, which means that the employee prefers to take leave instead of participating in the job. causes it.”
Hazouri added that the share of the production cost of the salaries in the national income was above 40 percent before, but currently it does not exceed 15 percent.
The university professor stressed that now the wage structure suffers from “imbalances and distortions” that have led to the decline of the middle class.
As Hazouri says, increasing income or purchasing power and closing the gap between income and prices can only happen in three main axes: supporting production, fighting waste and corruption, preventing monopoly and greed, and promoting competition.
